Our Age Range

13 to 18 years old

Squad members develop their sculling skills in singles, doubles, and quads while enjoying the excitement of local regattas and club events. As they progress, older squad members aim to compete at local, national, and even international regattas, participating in both sculling and sweep events.

Aspiring rowers can join the junior squad from September of Year 9, where they’ll dive into every aspect of the sport. From mastering sculling techniques to building fitness, stamina, strength, and teamwork, they’ll also develop resilience and a strong sense of camaraderie.

New Junior Members

Feel free to reach out to the Junior Membership Secretary to discuss enrolling your child—whether they’re complete beginners or seasoned rowers, we’d love to chat and answer any questions you may have!

Training

The training regime for our Juniors depends on age, ambition and ability. Land and water-based training sessions are available five days a week depending on season and weather conditions.

Racing

We encourage Juniors to compete in Winter Head races and Summer Regattas for which they need to buy British Rowing membership. Additional racing fees are announced on each event’s web site.

Junior Squad

The Junior squad runs a full calendar of local races throughout the winter and into the summer. Our program is designed to be progressive and structured, gradually increasing in volume and intensity as rowers gain experience. Training sessions are held both during the week and on weekends.

For those who demonstrate commitment and talent, there are exciting opportunities to compete at national and international levels. Juniors at Eton Excelsior have proudly participated in prestigious events like the National Schools Regatta, Henley Women’s Regatta, and Henley Royal Regatta. We’ve also had rowers represent England and Great Britain in international competitions.

Our Junior squad fosters a fun and welcoming atmosphere while encouraging a competitive spirit, allowing young athletes to push their limits and strive for excellence.
