Coaches

Paul Franklin has been coaching since 1997 and rowing/sculling since 1990. He has coached at all levels from novice to national level and holds the British Rowing Silver Coaching Award. A successful sweep and sculling coach, he particularly enjoys coaching sculling. He handles all aspects of coaching including training plans, technique training, squad/team management and has managed other coaches in his coaching teams both at EERC and also Marlow RC. Paul is responsible for designing and implementing the training programmes for the club as a whole and will work with the Junior Coach to develop an effective training and technique programme for the Junior athletes. He particularly enjoys developing athlete’s sculling technique.
Coaching initially with EERC, he looked after the leading women’s crew taking them through a full year of technical training and a successful season of 4+ racing, moving from novice to senior 1 in a single season, winning 6 out of 8 town regattas attended during the season. While working with Marlow Rowing Club he has been responsible at various times for the Senior Men, Masters Women teams and worked with the Junior squad. From his versatile experience, he is completely familiar with the process for multi lane racing and for racing at Henley Royal Regatta where he has had crews qualify in the events for all the boat types from the single, double, four and quad right up to the eight. He coached the EERC club four which qualified for Henley 2011. Currently Paul coaches the successful EERC masters women.
Katherine is a product of the original EERC junior rowing programme and has over 10 years of experience. During her time with EERC she was a national champion, raced at Henley Royal Regatta and won two gold medals for England at the Home International Regatta.
Katherine recently graduated from Duke University in North Carolina where she rowed in the first varsity 8 and helped guide the team to their first NCAA championship appearance. She was captain for two years, assisting in the cultivation of the current performance culture, and she achieved the prestigious All-American honours during her final year. Currently, Katherine is rowing at Leander Club and hopes to be selected for the GB senior squad. As a coach, she wants to impart the same love of rowing in her athletes that her coaches have instilled in her during her career and use her experience to inspire the next generation of young rowers.
Katherine will be the first point of contact for junior members and their families. Her focus will be on coaching the Junior Squad and supporting all junior members to achieve their full potential in the sport, and to accomplish the goals that EERC has for its junior members, and those members have for themselves.

Tom joined the club after his first pubs and clubs rowing crash-course and having been enthused by watching his late son race in Regattas as a member of the Windsor Boys’ School Boat Club. Now retired, he was a passionate sculler but now coaches when he can and he is the unofficial club historian.
He was Secretary of the Coronation Regatta held in 2013 to honour the Queen and was formerly Chairman of WBSBC. His not-so-secret ambition is to see the Windsor and Eton Regatta revived!

Pete Clements career as both a successful Cox and coach began back in the Spring of 2005 at an EERC Learn to Row course.
In 2006, Pete teamed up with a regular novice men’s crew training four nights a week with double sessions on the weekend; both Saturday and Sunday. The dedication paid off, and that year Stu Fenn, Alex Lidgate, John Sismey, Joff Cann and Pete won their novice pot at Henley Town and Visitors Regatta against Upper Thames RC, verdict easily.
Pete went on to cox at all levels from Pubs and Clubs Novice Regattas to coxing the winning Vet Ladies Crew achieving gold at the National Veteran Championships in 2009 (WB IM3 4+). With the intention of furthering his rowing knowledge Pete completed the level 2 coaching qualification in 2009. He is only too happy to share his knowledge and expertise with Club Members of all levels.
