Intermediate/Senior
Introduction
Athletes at this level have already won their novice pots in either rowing or sculling and are training to race and win at intermediate or senior level.
Many athletes of mid 30s + do some or all of their racing as Masters and they may choose to be in the Masters squad, particularly if availability for training is not sufficient to compete at Intermediate/Senior level.
Training
The intermediate/senior group trains 4 evenings a week and both mornings at the weekend. They train regularly in small boats and many own their own singles. They will also spend time in larger crews. The competitive focus for the group ranges from club level to multi lane and the Henley circuit.
We have found that competition at Intermediate and Senior level is such that a high level of training is required for success. This group is therefore not suitable for athletes who can not commit to training regularly.
Training Programme
A structured annual training programme is provided. There is some flexibility for athletes who'd like to train elsewhere 1 or 2 evenings a week. Athletes are expected to train regularly and effectively and some personal responsibility is involved here. The main criteria for remaining in this group is potential to achieve the boat speeds for success in competition at this level.
Coaches
The Coaches at EERC are very much a team. Athletes benefit from access to more than one coach. The team provides a great mix of enthusiasm and experience and is very well qualified. For the 2010-2011 season we are operating the intermediate/senior and novice group as one squad headed by Paul Franklin as lead coach, together with Mark Bradford, Peter Clements and Dave Vernon. The club also has a wide pool of coaches who you may meet including Jane Kerr, Keith Patton and John Sismey.

New Recruits
We are actively seeking to build Intermediate/Senior rowing/sculling at all levels, so if you have previous rowing/sculling experience please contact the Club Captain who can discuss in more detail what we offer, how your skills and ambitions would be accommodated, explain the full routine and introduce you to other members.
How to apply? You have 2 choices. If you are unsure about joining up there is a 1 month trial period, or you can join up as a full member. Either way please see Club Membership & Fees for the relevant forms. Both forms are to be completed in full and fees submitted to the Membership Secretary at the EERC Boathouse. Cheques should be made out to EERC.
Water Sessions and Crews
The make up snd progress of the group will determine which crews and events we aim for in 2010/11. All athletes are encouraged to develop both rowing and sculling skills and be flexible about which boat type they train in.
Racing Plans
The aim is to race at a number of key Heads - Pairs, Fours, Sculler, Eights. There will be trips to other club level head races and participation in our own internal head race programme. A full Regatta programme is planned for Spring/Summer 2011. Details will be posted nearer the time.
