Foundation

The Foundation rowers boat at 10.00am on a Sunday morning and caters for men and women with a range of requirements. The athletes in this group enjoy the flexibilty of being able to participate in outings at their convenience and they fall mainly into two categories

  • Those who would like to row or scull at their leisure and cannot or do not wish to commit the time required to row at a competitive level
  • Athletes who are working towards the fitness and technical skills needed to move into the Novice Racing Group

To join the Foundation rowers you must have learned the basics of rowing through our Learn to Row course or Pubs and Clubs. We may, at our discretion, admit rowers to the Foundation level who have learned the basics of rowing and/or sculling at another club. Provided you are able to contribute safely to a crew boat and there are places available you will be welcome to join.

It is under the guidance of Ray Hague and Pete Clements both experienced oarsman/coxes and coaches.

This friendly and inclusive group boats on a Sunday morning at a civilised hour and members can have as much or as little involvement as they wish. You will need to advise your availability each week for the purpose of planning crews but you are free to attend when you like.

The group will be enjoying outings in a range of crew boats - fours, quads, eights and doubles. Everyone who boats in coxed boats will be asked to take their turn at coxing.

Ray and Christie provide coaching to the group on the water.

There is no requirement to attend land training during the winter but you are warmly invited to join the club training nights should you wish to. The club nights are Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday is circuits from 6.30pm and Thursday is ergo night.

Athletes can, at any time, move from Foundation to Novice level provided they meet the necessary fitness, technical ability and availability requirements to train for racing.

If you are interested in joining Foundation rowing please contact Pete Clements.
